Time tight in Medicare fight to defend some pay provisions, block add-ons

Washington — With just six months before many provisions in the new Medicare law expire, physicians already are hastening to get several payment provisions extended. At the same time, they’re trying to prevent lawmakers from tacking initiatives opposed by organized medicine onto any payment reform legislation.

Minnesota State University Tightens Sanctions for Alcohol Use

Rocked by the local death of a former student and a car accident involving another fatality that police believe was alcohol-related, Minnesota State University Mankato officials are developing a plan to combat underage and high-risk drinking, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported on Nov. 28.?

States sue federal government over tighter SCHIP limits

Washington — Four states joined in a lawsuit and a fifth filed its own to block new rules limiting eligibility for the State Children’s Health Insurance Program.

The group lawsuit, filed Oct. 4 in a federal court in New York, says the Dept. of Health and Human Services should have provided the public notice and comment period required by law for program changes as significant as those in its Aug. 17 guidance.
