A New Jersey trial court ruling puts most, if not all, of the 200 physician-owned ambulatory surgery centers there in violation of the state’s anti-referral law.
A 1989 law called the Codey Act prohibits doctors from referring patients to an entity in which they have a financial interest, except in certain circumstances, such as for radiation therapy or if the service is provided at the doctor’s medical office.

A bracelet designed to send an anti-drug message is being pulled from the market for unintentionally doing the opposite, the Burlington (Iowa) Hawk Eye reported Oct. 26.
The novelty bracelets, intended to be distributed during national Red Ribbon Week, are embossed with the slogan “I’ve Got BETTER things to DO than DRUGS.” But some parents said that they got a different message when reading only the capitalized words: BETTER DO DRUGS.
