Washington — Physician relationships with medical device makers came under fire at a Senate Special Committee on Aging hearing last month. So far, legislation is focused on manufacturers’ conduct, but lawmakers and enforcement agencies expressed concern about doctors’ potential conflicts of interest as well.

A New Hampshire legislative hearing this week focused on a bill that would decriminalize possession of up to 1.25 ounces of marijuana, the Nashua Telegraph reported Jan. 24.
“Peaceful adults in possession of small amounts of marijuana do not harm others, but they do occupy our police, clog up our court system and take up space in our jails,” said Richard Van Wickler, head of the Cheshire County jail system and part of a group of supporters attending the hearing before the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee.

Saying he is “concerned that Major League Baseball does not have in place a sound policy addressing steroid use in the sport,” Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Fla.) is calling for new hearings in the wake of home-run king Barry Bonds’ recent indictment on perjury charges, AFP reported Sept. 18.

A federal court will hear arguments next month on whether farmers in North Dakota should be allowed to grow hemp, a non-narcotic cousin of marijuana, CNN reported Oct. 17.
The Nov. 14 hearing will determine whether the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is unreasonably blocking the farmers’ petition to legally grow hemp; the DEA and federal drug laws make no distinction between hemp and marijuana.

We all know what is hearing, but just what is hearing loss? And did you know that about 3 in 1000 babies are born with hearing impairment? In fact, hearing problem is the most common birth defect. A hearing problem can also develop later in life.
