Beauty Over Charity for Paris Hilton

Socialite Paris Hilton’s much ballyhooed trip to Rwanda for charity work has been postponed, but she is still managing to expand her horizons with world travel - by jetting off to Tokyo to judge a beauty contest. She can add pageant judge to her resume - after presiding over a beauty contest in Japan.
“I love Tokyo,” Hilton said. “The shopping is great.”
She has promised to improve her bad-girl image since she finished a jail term in June for violating probation in a reckless driving case, but she decided to postpone a trip to Rwanda this month for the Playing for Good Foundation.
Paris Hilton joined her fashion designer sister Nicky for the competition at a Tokyo clothing boutique on Tuesday (06Nov07), where they each selected a finalist for the Miss Universe Japan contest.A dozen or so more will be selected next month.
Her appearance drew a glut of media, with cameras cramming the boutique she visited, and fans crowding the streets. And Paris is overjoyed to be working in the south-east Asian country.
According to press reports, the duo ???are designing a high-end collection of purses for the Tokyo-based label, available at New York??™s prestigious Henri Bendel store.???
???I??™m really hoping that everyone likes my bags as much as I do,??? Nicky recently was overheard as saying.
Paris had recently announced plans to do charity work in Rwanda this month, for the Playing for Good Foundation, but later decided to postpone the trip - she told Extra at the time: ???We were supposed to be going in November, but then the charity is doing restructuring and figuring things out, it??™s going to be for next year.???
Hilton’s visit to Rwanda, where she planned to visit schools and health clinics, was part of an image makeover for the 26-year-old after a stint in jail for driving under the influence.
“There were a lot of bad people in L.A.” Hilton told Newsweek. “Before, my life was about having fun, going to parties - it was a fantasy. But when I had time to reflect, I felt empty inside. I want to leave a mark on the world.”
The announcement was made by Hilton in mid-September, after she acknowledged that her life in Los Angeles was about fun and parties.
???I??™ve heard it??™s really dangerous. I??™ve never been on a trip like this, and I want to leave a mark on the world,??? Hilton told Newsweek. The trip has not been re-scheduled and no further details were immediately available.
