SCHIP Bills Include Parity Provisions

September 29th, 2007    Posted by: Dr. Dobson

By Bob Curley

The children’s health-insurance bill passed by the House and Senate this week not only raises federal tobacco taxes to pay for expanded health care but also requires state programs to treat addiction and mental-health disorders on par with physical illnesses.

The Senate voted 67-29 on Sept. 27 to approve the expansion of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). The legislation would add $60 billion to SCHIP over the next five years, providing health coverage to an additional 4 million uninsured children. Currently, state-run SCHIP programs cover 6.6 million children who families have incomes too high to qualify for Medicaid but can’t afford health insurance.

September 29th, 2007    Posted by: Dr. Dobson

The FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting Program said that homicides, rapes, robberies and aggravated assaults increase about 2 percent last year, but that the property-crime rate fell 1.9 percent, the Los Angeles Times reported Sept. 25.

How The Back Works

How The Back Works

The back is an amazing structure. As its central support, there are 33 vertebrae balanced on top of each other, held together by ligaments and cushioned by intervertebral disks. There are 7 cervical vertebrae, which are the smallest and most flexible. The top two have very specific functions. The first cervical vertebra, or atlas, articulates with the base of the skull, allowing nodding movements. The second, the axis, rotates around a peg connecting into the atlas and allows turning of the head.
